2.5 Release

Welcome to our forum at linux questions!

Many thanks to Jeremy for contacting me.

We are at around 10 days from CollegeLinux 2.5 release. We decided to take all the necessary time before releasing. This include an internal alpha and beta release.

Obi Wan (collegelinux 2.5) will introduce some major changes like :

-Possibility to upgrade any package of the distribution, add new packages et all with a couple of clicks from a user friendly GUI;
- full compatibility with Slackware 9.1.;
-CollegeLinux robot to auto configure PHP/Apache/MySQL/Webmin;
-More hardware support ;
-New OpenOffice, file sharing and much more.

All the best,

gurugeeek

Funny this just happened today,

It was yesterday that I was searching for new distro's to try and I stumbled upon college linux. I haven't had the opportunity to install (and I believe I will wait for the new rls) but I definetly am interested in it and am looking forward to trying it on my #3 computer

ON-line and ready to rock.

Just to say I have joined this forum and am also looking forward to the new release.

I look forward to working the the new tools and also to get those wireless issues finally laid to rest.

Hope I will be able to help some others along the way too. And look forward to meeting new CL users in this new forum

Just installed today to check it out. So far I like it, especially since its Slack based.. I think its found a home on one of my 9 computers and will be used quite often.

Welcome aboard once again, were glad to have you a part of our forums.

2.5 was released late december. It has some minor issues so read the install howto (in doc section when typo's corrected.) and the forums. Slapt-get will be used to fix the more serious issues in the next week or 2. This has some great new features like slapt-get, webmin, php/apache/mysql all configured at startup. The slapt-get repository is not yet very populated, but it will fill up fast once the team come off holiday.

If your interested in college linux, check it out. I'm using it now and hooked.

is slapt-get slackware compatable? Or are there libraries and dependancies that are only found in CL?

Everyone is working full on to get the packages on the cl repository, the default only works with the cl repository but the packages are slack compatable so everything should work. Personally i recommend staying with the cl repository, I have seen to many decian apt-get messup by adding the wrong site. there is a place on the site to request slapt-get packages, slackware users should be able to use these too when they are made.

Hopefully someone more in the know will be able to give a better answer
