Samsung 850PRO SSD on Centos 6.7
 

I was unaware of the issues with Samsung ssd products with linux before purchasing a 512GB 850pro drive. Within a few days I had my first data loss of 70GB. Happened again a few days later. After much time on the forums I discovered that there was a serious kernel bug in the ncq trim function that was rectified by a kernel patch accepted last July as I remember. Before that time, most everybody in the linux community blamed Samsung for the 850pro problem due to their handling of the 840pro problems earlier. Funny thing, it was Samsung that found and corrected the linux kernel bug.

Now for the questions: I am running centos 6.7 with all updates, specifically kernel 2.6.32-573.3.1.el6.x86_64. Has this kernel been patched for the ncq bug? If not, where can I find official kernel packages that have been patched? Note: the centos.org forum doesn't seem to work for me.

Till I have this resolved, I have added the following kernel parameter to disable(I hope) ncq: "libata.force=noncq". Is this correct and the only thing I need to do to prevent further data loss?

The kernel should support trim.
And NCQ is supported by the Bios.
