I'm loaded and want Enlightenment instead of KDE.

so now that i finally got it on my system (ok, i hadn't worked around the clock on it, and i've tried Kanotix since last we spoke...) I have some questions.
  1. When i startx, it defaults to KDE on my install. I want it to go to Enlightenment. any suggestions?
  2. i installed numa thing... on my turion laptop. i need get the ati driver installed. will report on that soon.
  3. I need the middle wheel on my mouse to work. where is the xconfig file? i thought it was at /etc/X11 but alas it isn't there.
  4. last will come ndiswrapper and such for wireless tools.

So i have some stuff to do today and will report back to let us all know how i'm doing. cause that's what's important i say. if someone can help me with the enlightment thing at the very least i'd love it.

As the treepeople said : take your time nothing is really on my mind.

Enlightenment is now my default window manager. man is it slick. I know that KDE is a great desktop environment, but i like the minimalist/leftclick-ablility of a WM. Personal preference, and i know yours is wrong if you disagree :-) anywhore, this is how i did it. low tech, sort of.

i guess i just started "gdm" (minus the quotes) in the shell.
up came the gnome login manager, and i selected Enlightenment to be my default app. really easy.

Now on to making my screen 1280X768 with the help of the ATI linux driver and loader.

here's another one for ya. on 64 bit OS's why is it so hard to double click in certain boxes... for instance, in kanotix i couldn't double click with the mouse, i had to pound on the synaptics pad buttons in the hope that something would register.

Yea, e17 (enlightenment) is my WM of choice as well. Once we have our default themes imported in and a base menu configuration we will make it the default cAos WM. It also works very well on older hardware.

Have you tried to run the Enlightenment login manager? You mentioned KDM, but Entrance is really slick. Problem is that if there is anohter WM loaded I have seen a bug where it loads other WM's before enlightenment. My recommended fix is to remove other WM's and get all of the enlightenment package group:

# yum groupremove kde gnome gnome-extras
# yum groupinstall enlightenment desktop

should do the trick Then set your default run level to 5, and Entrance should boot up.

The version of Xorg that cAos comes with doesn't require a config file. If you need to generate one, type: 'X :1 -configure' as root, and then check /root/xorg.conf.*. Move that to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and edit your modes.

Hope that helps out!

Also, feel free to jump on the email list or IRC channel. Lots of help there too.
