Cross Compatibility

i have Cent OS 4

I use GNOME.....

i did not find any inbuilt download accelerator in GNOME (like Kget in KDE)

so i installed Wine..
and then installed getright to a seperate folder in my Home folder......

How can i make getright work?

or is there any linux version of getright that i should have installed?

You could keep using kget. Just because you are running Gnome, it does not mean that your KDE applications won't run, or vice-versa. As long as you have the run-time libraries, everything should be just fine....

Still, here are some:

Downloader for X.
http://www.krasu.ru/soft/chuchelo/

Prozilla
http://prozilla.delrom.ro/prozilla.html

Wget
http://wget.sunsite.dk/

Wget is a standard console command. There're, however, some front-ends for it, as Kmago and Gnome Transfer Manager. Just google for it

Regards!

Gwget is an alternative to kget. The only gotcha with CentOS is that CentOS has gtk 2.4 but gwget requires gtk 2.6.

I prefer kget over the rest, but this is a personal opinion.

You can make kget integrate with Firefox (I read it somewhere but don't know how to do it myself).

i couldn't get the instructions given at the site....

can anybody help me ?

the instructions r as follows....

This patch allows you to download your files using KGet from inside Mozilla and/or Firefox.

How to install

Download the shell-script. Open Konqueror and browse to the directory where you have downloaded it. Right-click the file and select "Properties". In the opened window, click the "Permissions" tab and activate the "is runnable" checkbox, then click OK. Press F4 or click Tools - Open terminal. Type:

./kget4mozilla-0.2.sh /directory/where/you/installed/mozilla

If you don't have write permissions, the script will automatically prompt you to enter the root password.

If you're using Mozilla, open it and click Edit - Preferences. Then select Navigator - Downloads. In the right panel, make sure you choose "Open the download manager". In Firefox there isn't a similar option so you will always use KGet and there's no way to disable it.

How to use

When you right-click a link and select "Save link target as..." or shift+click it, KGet will open asking you to choose the place where you want to save the file. You may use Tools - Download Manager ("Downloads" in Firefox) to open KGet and/or focus on it.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE PLUGIN

The best directory to check if you have installed stuff in rpm format is in a subdirectory of /usr e.g. firefox is in /usr/lib/.
