Kensai,
Do you know if your DSL is connected using PPPoE?
Are you connecting via a network card to your DSL router?
Can you call the support for your DSL connection and ask for configuration information to be used on your computer? Even instructions for some other OS could be helpful in configuring your connection with cAos linux.
Thank you and good luck,
Troy

Ok I just called my DSL provider and he said it is connected using PPPoE.
About being connected via network card I think yes cause I've connected the DSL through Ethernet and I have another computer connected too. About this I don't know much but ask some specific questions and I'll answer.
-Thanks
I hope you can help me now.
EDIT: Ok and he told me it uses DHCP and a Dynamic IP.

Have you thought about getting a small hardware firewall that would allow you to use a standard TCP/IP internal network? Most DSL firewalls can talk PPPOE on the outside, which will make things much more compatible and easier to deal with (not to mention NAT your entire home subnet so all systems can be on the net at once).

Ok if your asking if I have a hardware firewall, yes I have it, but is there anything made different between having a Firewall or not? I've wanted to install cAos but I can't get the network to work.
Hope you can ask more questions just to see if you can help me.
-Thanks

Kensai,
Usually a hardware device/firewall is (or can be) configured to supply IP addresses to hosts behind it via DHCP. Does your device do this? If not, can you make it do so? Barring other problems, getting your IP address from a DHCP server (the firewall device, in this case) can make installing cAos easier.

Sorry, But how do I know the answer to this: Does your device do this? If not, can you make it do so?
Where do I check this???
About this: getting your IP address from a DHCP server (the firewall device, in this case) can make installing cAos easier.
I know my IP adress is this what I need.
-Sorry for being so much of a n00b but I want to learn.
-Thanks

Ok this is what happens my DSL connection is via Point to Point Protocol over ATM (PPPoA) so I've read this is even harder in Linux. So any help?

Kensai,
I have not configured a PPPoA connection, but have had a PPPoE. I do not think cinch is able to do this, at least for now. There are inexpensive devices that will do PPPoE and connect to your ISP on the internet/wan interface, and then behave as a gateway/router/dns proxy/dhcp server for your local network on the local/lan interface. If you can find an inexpensive device that will do that and PPPoA, you will find it easier to install cAos (and other OSes as well) via a network install. Here is some ascii art of the setup I am referring to:
[cAos-Box]---[Hub/Switch]---[PPPoA-Gateway-Device]---[ISP]---[Internet]
I didn't talk about the hub/switch, but you can do without that if you have a crossover cable. They are cheap and useful, so you might consider getting one as well.
Hopefully that is not too cryptic,
Troy
