BuffaloLinux is based on a Slackware derived distribution called VectorLinux. Buffalo enhancements include pre-installed MS Windows Office or Lotus using CodeWeavers Office, and pre-installed database access using IBM DB2 Connect or Oracle.
|
what do they mean by pre-installed MS Office?
How can they do that?

About Buffalo
Buffalo Linux is a derivative distribution based on Vector and Slackware. It is targeted at the small business workstation market. This is the free base version; enhanced versions with pre-installed database access (DB2 and Oracle) and Microsoft product execution using CodeWeavers products are available at US$25 over licensing costs.

They do what many distros do, ask you to pay for non-free apps.

Looks like "pre-installed" refers to local supported clients, judging by what they write in the help section of the site:
Quote:
The following is an outline of the required steps to install Crossover Office and setup Internet Explorer. The IE program is downloaded form the internet – no CDs needed. However, the other Office products will require Microsoft CDs and license keys. Buffalo Linux attempts to streamline the procedure as much as possible. For local supported clients, extensions to Buffalo are available with pre-installed MS Windows products (licenses required).

I have the CD for the MacAlester Buffalo Linux, and could not get it to install. I purchased the CD right here in Oklahoma from them.

It was a couple of months or so ago, so I don't recall, other than it would not boot up. I bought it with the intention of supporting an Oklahoma made Linux distro, since I live in Oklahoma. I miight download the latest version and give it another try.

I don't mean to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, and since
I'm not a mod it's probably improper, but this particular thread
was just for Jeremy to announce the Buffalo Linux forum. You
should actually post in it for help with problems.
