Question Can I install sybase client & powerbuilder in linux suse 9.3


I am using powerbuilder 8.0 to develop database program, and sybase 11 as a client........ our company migrated from windows 98 to linux suse 9.3 due to expensive license of microsoft .....i try to install the powerbuilder to linux suse 9.3 but there is an error during installation using wine

my question can i use powerbuilder under linux suse platform


pls help me

Ummm...

If I read this right you're actually asking if you can run PowerBuilder under wine on Linux rather than just run it on Linux. Not having used this I had a look at it and it appears to be a Windows only product so you'd have to install it under a Windows emulator like wine.

However it seems you would be making your life rather complicated by trying to run Sybase products in Windows fashion when they actually have Linux ports for several products. Also it seems highly likely Sybase wouldn't consider wine installations "supportable".
I'd suggest you check out the following link:

It gives you a list of products Sybase supports under Linux. It looks like they have another tool for building applications for Linux that's not called PowerBuilder.

PowerBuilder for Linux... that would be a killer app. They could probably leverage some code from the Mono project too.

Anyway, last time I used system 11 was 1999ish and they're beta testing PB 11 right now. I doubt the WINE developers are going to support versions that old.
