Video Thumbnails and a nice little image viewer. Tips.
This is probably not something new to many of you, but if you want to have video thumbnails enabled in PCManFM, install "FFmpegthumbnailer". It works out of the box. I tried "FFMpegThumbs" but, nope.
If you want a nice and simple image viewer, I suggest you try "Eye of Mate" (package: eom). It handles most formats including animated gifs and the scroll wheel lets you zoom in and out. Just a couple of tips for newbies, from a newbie. |
Viewnior is also a light and fast image viewer with good functionality. Not sure if EoM has any Mate` dependencies. People not using Mate` may have an issue with that. Good to know about PCManFM, thanks for the tidbit.

I am guessing EoM has some basic gnome-stuff dependencies, which is most likely installed in Bodhi from the get-go already. I got no "complaining" about MATE dependencies when I installed it. EoM is just a fork of Eye of Gnome, so maybe that's the reason.

Figured that but just wanted to bring it up. Quite familiar with Mate` - it is patterned after my beloved Gnome 2, which sadly doesn't exist any longer and has been replaced with a hideous monster

It's from GNOME's early days but still under development. Super fast, and loads every image format I throw at it. I prefer it to feh, which is a little too spartan in some situations (very good for single-image situations though. Like opening straight from a web link). Quote:
I used viewnior for animated GIFs, but since geeqie can also do that I have no use for it. |
