Updates not finishing
1 Attachment(s)
Again, installing Bodhi 5.0.0. I got to the updates, and in the Processing Triggers section, it would not go past processing the trigger for "menu". I closed the terminal (after about 45 minutes of waiting), rebooted, and went back to updates, where it hung on the same process for a different app (I hope I can attach a screenshot);
Nope, my 207 kb screenshot gets expanded to 305 kb by the system, which puts it over the 256 kb limit. Let's try a crop... Attachment 29614 |
use terminal----
sudo apt-get update and then run sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and hit y for yes when it asks about disc space. in 4.5 and 5 there are issues running updater through menu. thought they might have fixed it by now. |
It's as hemlocktree says, it's best to do updates using Terminal rather than the Bodhi Updater, which is sadly a little flaky. It appears sometimes not to notice that the update has finished, and then hangs. I use the CPU widget and once it shows the usage has dropped to a low value, it seems safe to kill the Updater, but it's just less hassle to use the Terminal commands that hemlocktree listed in his post.
I find the AppCenter to be flaky, too, so I use Terminal to install new software. This is also a lot less hassle since you can build all the apt-get commands into a shell script file without having to mouse your way through interminable menus. |
As with KDE neon, it is sad when a major componenet of your desktop does not run -- but the developers insist on leaving it in. And don't mention that it's still buggy. (I will note that, finally, KDE Discover appears to be working correctly.)

well not to be a wisea$$ but make a few notes. i have been using bodhi daily since build 3. love it - since then did try others which were disappointing. i know there are a few snags but being here i have learned and try to pass what little i know. if i was a coder etc i would help out a lot more. But I do not know these things. do not know why some stuff doesn't get worked on but with 2 people doing it all in their free time I'd say bodhi beats most with full time developers. i count on my laptops. and they run sweet. yes my stupidity at time is my issue. but the older i get and I am OLD i learn not to do too much to break things. there is only so much 2 guys can do and there are problem way too many new developments and tweaks based on debian and ubuntu and enlightenment variatons 17-22 that hey - you love it or you hate it.
i love it a lot. (not going to state my recent bad experiences with a couple of others.... tried when the old forum shutdown..... another can of worms and afew minnows thrown in..... Hey Gillign and skipper and matu ann and don;t forget Ginger....) ha ha ha ha ha |
