Terminology 1.7.0

Terminology in Bodhi linux 5.x main repo has been updated to version 1.7.0. There are a number of improvements:

Code:

Work has mostly been on tabs and splits and how to interact with them.
As well as a video illustrating some of these new features.

Some of the more noteworthy changes:

  • Add THEME.md, a documentation file on theming Terminology
  • Drag tabs to reorder them
  • Dragging tabs outside the tab bar can be used to create new splits or tabs
  • Add Croatian translation
  • Handle escape code used to display terminal program and version
  • Set environment variables TERM_PROGRAM and TERM_PROGRAM_VERSION

== Improvements ==

  • Handle escape codes to stack titles
  • ''tyls'': add icon for ''flac'' files
  • Update the mild-based themes to be on-par feature-wise with the default theme
  • Tab selector shows background color
  • Controls panel is hidden when creating new tab or split
  • Enable Grouped Input from the Controls panel
  • Show special icon on tab when using Grouped Input
  • Add option to decide whether Grouped input goes to all tabs or only visible ones
  • Improve email/links detection when surrounded with special characters
  • Remove link underline when the link disappears
  • Share translucent/opacity setting across all instances
  • Use a default icon of each tab on the Settings toolbar
  • Update French, German, Italian and Serbian translations

I'm not much of a power user - not any kind of a power user - so I don't know if I'll every have a use for tabs or splits, but the video was very instructive. If I ever did need them, I've got it now.

Good job.

Woah - very nice indeed :) Thanks very much.

Did you watch the video in the first post? I bet you can't do fancy stuff like that with lxterm :)

Although lxterm is fine, in fact, for simple use, there's one thing I like better than terminolgy... when I right click (to paste) the menu appears immediately by my mouse pointer. In Terminology it appears after brief delay and is always way over on the right side.

LXTerminal

Yes & I agree with you but for those who want a simple + lightweight terminal LX is excellent!

lxterminal is my terminal of choice, but that is hardly the point of this post. Terminology has came a long ways since its early days and this is simply to announce a new release with some new features.

LXTerminal

Huge fan of LXTerminal just had to make that statement...Thanks

I'm curious why the team picked this terminal, as no other distro I've tried uses it and there are so many good terminals out there. Also, the icon does not fit the theme used elsewhere in 5.1.0. I am not a connoisseur of terminals, but the one in Budgie (Solus, Ubuntu) seems to be as light and has a lot of support.

I think Terminolgy matured a lot. There is nothing I would miss for my workflow...

...and why we picked it? Because we like native EFL apps.

OK, that explains it. I'm not aware of which apps are EFL native. But that doesn't explain why the icon is out of keeping with the theme... Thanks for the response.

I realize a lot of my posts have not been all Suzie Sunshine, but I really love Bodhi and push it on all my friends (which includes a few hundred Linux nerds at various Telegram and Discord groups) and talk about it frequently on mintCast and Distrohoppers' Digest. I can't wait for the next version to see how Bodhi handles 20.04.

Although I don't normally use the green icons, I wonder why one wasn't made for terminology, or for that matter the clipboard and synaptic, since those are all included by default for everyone. That is odd. Looking thru my menu/etc when I set back to green, most apps I've installed (other than Chrome) don't have green icons either, except ones available in apppack (i.e. firefox, gdebi, evince, libreoffice, etc), but even some of those don't (i.e. vlc, hexchat).
