Synaptic Won't Launch in Bodhi 5
Have been using different Linux distros for the last 10 years so thought I would give Bodhi a whirl on an old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo V710 Pro with a Celeron D CPU.
Linux boots into Bodhi OK but after installing Synaptic, I am unable to launch it to install further software. I get the error message 'Unable to launch ...' It won't boot from the terminal either. I've had Lubuntu running on this laptop and synaptic installs without any problems so the hardware should be OK. Any clues? TIA Fubbery |
Hi fubbery, and welcome to LQ.
What is the entire output that you receive when you try launching it from the terminal? |
see the bodhi forum. no time to find it now but it may have to do with polkit/policykit. there are instructions. i had it happen to 3 laptops quite a while ago. ylee explains how ti fix it.

I think hemlocktree is referring to this thread - https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ed-4175646760/.

I've tried installing synaptic from the software links listed in Bodhi and it would appear to be successful as Synaptic is listed in the menu under preferences. When I try to launch it I get:- Application run error. Moksha was unable to run the application synaptic-pkexec. From the terminal I removed Synaptic and re-installed it. It launches OK from the terminal but if I try to launch it from the menu I get exactly the same error message. Thanks fubbery |
This thread: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...it-4175650412/
suggests this command: Code:
sudo apt-get --reinstall install esudo |
as i stated earlier it most likely is this policykit thing that happened a while ago. once you follow ylee's suggestions on the thread under bodhi forum all is well. once again i am sorry to try to not find it for you - i s, swamped with homestead stuff to do and weeding and planting and harvesting and about 60 other things that need to be done last december. maybe later tomorrow i can try to dig around for all of the exact info you need. sorry about that.

ylee tried sudo apt-get install policykit-1-gnome from another thread you said to install and choose olicy kit at startup but still nothing.
then reboot! |
read the whole thread
esp page i linked https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...561/page2.html see what ylee says... |
