i got it - thanks. i reread it but being foggy brained lately and stressed due to other real-life stuff i wasn't sure if i needed to do it or what. :-)))

done to all 3 laptops.

oh - ylee - and others:

it turns out that the first couple of starts were slow on the 2 non-ssd drives but now they seem to be back to normal - so you know.

It runs synaptic from Xfce menu in Debian 12

After installing polycikit-genome-1 synaptic runs as in the older distributions, even in the Xfce desktop. However, other privileged applications launched from the menu, Debian 12, are missing the "-pkexec" suffix in the command; this may fixed in the respective ".conf" of the application, in its "Exec= ..." line.
