Ok after many trials and also failured wven with what eventually worked - go figure - i entered /home/uername/Downloads and it seemed to work. it takes a screenshot whole screen and seems to not be able to capure a specific window like other screenshot tools. does not seem to have the other features that other screenshot tools seem to have.

You really haven't provided much detail, but I'd suggest you check the permissions on whatever directory you tried to save the screenshot to.

If that doesn't help, come back and provide more detailed information, like the specific names and paths of directories, what program/process you used to take the screenshot, and the like.

as I said i did get it to work but there appears to be no other parameters to choose re: active window or highlighted window etc. 2. it is the scrrenshot tool in Bodhi since i posted in the bodhi forum and that is the name of it. Not sure what more i can say. if you do not run bodhi then you do not understand i am afraid with all due respect. thank you for your reply.

I had to do the same on my office laptop and it worked.

I do have Bohdi in a VM, but I've not used their screenshot tool.

I normally take screenshots with the Gimp, which does allow you to select full screen, specific window, or area of the screen.

on my bodhi 5.1.0 system, i can right-click on the active window's tab on the taskbar and the third option down on the menu (with a camera icon) that pops up is take shot. that is what i have always used to take a shot of the active window whereas i use my print screen button for the whole screen. i have never come across a pre-installed standalone screenshot program like exists in other distros or 'buntus. the screenshot settings menu shows an option for "Show the screenshot mode dialog", but i'm not sure what that exactly refers to.

there is an advanced screenshot tool in the appcenter. this might be how one installs the "screenshot mode dialog". i have never used it, but it offers some other options like whole screen, select window and select region as well as a chance to choose where to save the image.

thanks cordx. I thought about this and figured it out when i took the dog out this morning even before my coffee. just tried it too before posting and it worked. I am totally fine now. I knew there was a way to do it. after a hiatus i kind of forget certain things. kind of wobbly on the bike if you get my drift. :-)))

the screenshot tool in the appcenter i must of just passed up or thought that was what was installed. probably do not need that now that i figured it out. Thank so much! you heleped me out again!

This is the original E17 screenshot dialog. In the past I blocked this option because uploading to enlightenment server did not work. In another Bodhi release I brought it back because server was repaired and it has some options I missed (picture quality in the wizard and save dialog).

i saw it today for the first time i believe in the beta release when using my print screen key. the vast majority of the time i use the "take shot" option presented by right-clicking the program's tab on the shelf to get the specific window. i always thought was a clever implementation of how to focus the screenshot.
