Not completely connecting to iPhone

When I plugin the Iphone it pops up for both sides of it. document side, apps: and Phone side, on the phone side it does not make a complete connection so I can get at me images, and movies taken with the iPhone.

(slackwere works on both sides of the iPhone, (just an example of yes it can work) and I do not want to have to boot out of the OS I am currently working in just to get what I need out of my iPhone.

what's missing?

Don't use iphones and wouldn't keep one if ya gave it to me. So I really don't know.

But do you have ifuse installed? Google indicates ya probably need it.

Maybe look inside of this to see what is missing.

thanks for all of the input, when I get a free moment I'll check further into this issue.

I truly hope this issue has been resolved, but there's no indication of that in the thread.

I have connected a variety of "mobile devices" to a "desktop" machine with different degrees of success. Often the desktop OS seems to want to use a somewhat high level protocol, something such as the Media Transfer Protocol. If the OS on the desktop machine complained about communication with the device, whether because the mobile device was following an older standard, or a different standard than the OS expected, or there was something strange happening, I was usually able to at least move files back and forth, using a "lower" level protocol, such as the Secure File Transfer Protocol, as long as I made sure I was using the proper type of connectors. AFAIK, whether for iOS, Android, etc. there are generally "apps." available that implement SFTP.

I realize that doesn't resolve the fundamental problem, but hopefully it can help in the mean time.

I had success on 5.1 legacy by installing: sudo apt install libimobiledevice-utils. libimobiledevice6 is also needed, but was already installed by default.

Working with my ancient iPhone 4S - I can access photos, etc on the device which automounts.
