No docs folders in Bodhi 5

Just upgraded from Bodhi 4 to Bodhi 5 - all fine after getting the synaptics driver installed and the touchpad working. Except - on opening file manager there are no folders for documents, pictures etc. Does anyone else have this or has my install not completed correctly?

Incidentally I have installed with no issues using a dvd but it won't install using a usb stick (gets stuck and get the intramfs error). As have others I believe - so dvd install is the way to go for now.

just create one no problem.

serendipity7000 09-28-2018 06:00 AM

Thanks - yes I know you can do that but why aren't they there? They were in Bodhi 4.

no clue but an easy fix. no terminal needed for newbies.

serendipity7000 09-28-2018 06:42 AM

Thanks - yes done it easily but just plain folders - not the ones with the little icons on! Which look kind of "finished" Like these in Bodhi 4 (6th photo down from the top). Selling this laptop on and other people expect them!

I think they must be in there somewhere as just tried saving a libre word document and it gave me the option to save it in "My Documents" folder with the little logo - it just doesn't show up in the file manager.

Minor annoyance I know but it would be nice if the folders came back as part of the install as in the screenshot above!

Have a look in /usr/share/icons. You might find the icons you want there. Then you can reset your desktop links to use them. I agree it's a nuisance that they are not there by default.

It's usually the desktop that creates those special folders in your home directory. In Bodhi, that means Enlightenment.

yeah I get that a lot with some of the distros I play with, the download folder does not show up until I actually download something, then I have to create the rest. First Letter is Capital letter.

Can't see anything in User/share. Ok if I create a documents folder it saves the document there. If I don't create a docoments folder it gives me the option to save to "My Documents" folder but saves it to the home folder next to the desktop icon, as a file. So I guess the answer is just create a folder without the nice little icon.

I did a screen shot of my home folder as the drives aren't showing either - saved the photo to the desktop. It shows up in home folder under "desktop" but not actually on the desktop! Can't seem to copy it to my usb drive either. Tried dragging, then copying - but no option to paste to the usb. Usb drive did show up on file manager but main drive doesn't (although I have a desktop "places" gadget set up to show it).

I am just wondering if my installation is complete or if there is something missing that needs addding.

It was the legacy install. It's the same on another machine so have decided to put Bodhi 4 on the one I'm selling and keep Bodhi 5 on my own. Really loving Bodhi 5 and hopefully updates will sort the odd little thing out as time goes on.

most apps from what I've seen give you an option to create a folder in the save as dialog box, just create it, then make sure you click into that dir, then save the file.

you should create them to read as such
Code:

Desktop Pictures Templates Documents Music Public Downloads Videos
Capitalized first letter. These are the standard names so you'll get your nice icon after created. That is my experience through trial and error.

this has nothing to do with an incomplete installation.

Hello there

Default folders are not in Bodhi 5 because of lack of one important package

Please install:
sudo apt install xdg-user-dirs-update

It is not only about the creating the "well known" folders but also you can manage the localization stuff. For more info see this page:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...er_directories

Oops

I made a mistake.

You need to install a different package:
sudo apt install xdg-user-dirs

and then execute this command which is a part of xdg-user-dirs:
xdg-user-dirs-update

Now the folders should be created.

Excuse me :(

Stefan
