Newbie setup questions
 

Hi all, this is my first time trying Bodhi Linux on an old Intel Core Duo L2400 laptop with 1.5GB RAM. So far so good -- I'm really digging the look and "special effects" ^^

Two things that I couldn't figure out how to configure:

1. When you hover the mouse cursor over the Bodhi App Center icon in the bottom left, there is this animation -- how do you disable this icon animation?

2. How do you bind the Windows key to open the main menu? I was able to bind Win + L to lock, but I wasn't able to bind Win to Main Menu.

3. In the Elementary Config / Rendering panel, it is currently set to "No Acceleration" -- would it make my system any faster if I change this to one of the options below like 3D or Hardware? My laptop has Intel GMA 950.

like you i didn't see a way to set just the win key to open anything as the system was asking for a key combination rather than a single key. i was able to get main menu to work with win + x (relatively easy to press quickly).

one option i learned a while back from Stefan which took the place of main menu for me was win + space (or alt + esc) to open the everything launcher. from there you can see recently searched options or start typing the name of the program or setting you are looking for.

I enjoy the animation as part of theme...

Great question #1, I've been wondering this as well. I replace the default launcher icons with my own, and they display the same text animation. Mightily annoying and distracting! :) Want to turn it off!

Animation is a part of theme.

Possible solutions:
1. You need to install a theme without this effect. Detorious is one of them
2. Remove theme script part from edj code. Harder but possible. Feel free to ask how, if you are insterested
3. Combine theme elements. Replace the current theme ibar with the detorious one in theme setting. Prob will look ugly as they have different colors
4. Do not use iBar as cordx noticed. Use launcher instead.

Thanks for asking! I was going searching for this too. I guess as Stefan said above, it happens to be part of the theme.

Suggestion for the Bodhi Team: maybe a version of the Bodhi theme can be included without all the animations? Not just the font effects and related stuff but all animations. At least there's an option for a very lightweight setup using the already beautiful Bodhi theme.

(I turn off all animations in Windows and Android too, I prefer the OS to be as fast as possible.)

I'm not sure about this but generally acceleration will make the OS better and if it is not available it just fallback to whatever is available.

Hardware acceleration is using the built-in stuff in the machine.
While the OpenGL option is using the GPU.
Then 3D, I'm not sure about that one.

There's also software acceleration maybe the 3D is software?

You can try the different settings but if it is not available it will just fallback until it reaches "No Acceleration".

I'm curious about this question too myself. I just chose OpenGL.
