I installed Manjaro on my wife's MacBook about a month ago. I downloaded the ISO image onto the Mac, then burned it onto a DVD, then
checked that it would live boot. You do this by holding down the Alt key as the MacBook powers up - it should then show you icons for each bootable disk, use the arrow keys to select the DVD and press enter. I wasn't able to make a USB stick that would show up as a bootable device - you might have better luck than me.
Once I'd decided to go ahead and do a permanent install, I used BootCamp to partition the HD. Then I booted from the DVD and triggered the process to install Manjaro. IIRC there was a button on the desk top - I know I had no problem finding it. Quite possibly I didn't need to use Boot Camp to partition the disk, but I'd previously installed Windows on a different machine and I was familiar with the process.
Then it was simply a case of selecting the correct disk partition (!), and waiting for the install to finish.
You can choose which partition to boot from by holding down the Alt key as the Mac starts up. If you always want to boot from one particular partition, then there is an option in OS X System Preferences > Startup Disk to select a default boot device. You can always override this by holding down Alt, and you can go back into OS X and change it.
I haven't tried permanently overwriting OS X, and in fact I wouldn't recommend it. It's quite handy to be able to get back into OS X just in case...
As I said, this is for Manjaro, however I expect Bodhi would be exactly the same process.
