How to cast audio?
What's the easiest way to cast mp3 files to my AVR from Bodhi? Does pcmanfm have add ons/etc? Or is there a recommended app I could apt install?
This should be an easy one, thought I'd ask here first before even searching. I recently decided to make my primary computer linux. It started a month or two ago when I was trying to decide what to do with old desktops that were laying around unused, and progressed to me loving Linux & Bodhi. I got all the stuff I thought I used all the time installed and set up under Bodhi and certainly much faster/more responsive than Win10 and of course faster than my old P4 & AMD64 machines. So loving it. But I keep needing some little util or something I need to add or figure out. Like this morning. One of my 4-year-old daughters, who completely love each having their own computers now btw and have learned how to use them crazy fast, asked me to play a certain song this morning. I said sure, walked to my computer, and then a 'doh!' moment - I don't know how to do that. With windows 10, I could right click on a mp3 in explorer and select something like 'play on' and one of the choices is my receiver. Then a box would come up with some basic controls (volume, pause, etc) and a playlist I could drag & drop to, rearrange, etc. |
so you're looking for something to play music , mp3 files on the fly, like just clicking on one and it plays? I use pcmanfm others too should work, I have audacious installed and it has a listings of mp3s on system that one can pick from, google mp3 players top ten linux to see what is out there to use.
I do not know this 'cast' what is cast mp3? |
I have installed VLC so yes I can play mp3's locally by double-click from pcmanfm, but that's not what I mean. Cast, in the context I mean, means play on another device. So I want to select the song on my computer, but it plays on my receiver.

It's a built-in feature in win10, just right cick on the file, does it thru wifi, I never cared about details cuz it just works. You didn't even know what cast meant a minute ago, I think you're followup questions are useless, if somebody knows how to do it let them answer or ask me a question.

whatever dude, figure it out yourself then. chio

sudo apt install pulseaudio-dlna
pulseaudio-dlna (which I added to startupcommands) Works a little different than windows, allows sending any apps output sound to receiver, so I can use whatever app I want for playlists/etc. |
these sort of "stupid" questions can really help to find the solution yourself - if nothing else they force you into action!
