Help updating Enlightenment 23

I've downloaded and unzipped the file. I've read the install file but can't make any sense of it.

Install text file is:

** COMPILING and INSTALLING **
------------------------------

Meson is the build system used for this project. For more information please
see:

http://mesonbuild.com

----

Normal compilation in /usr/local:

meson . build
ninja -C build
sudo ninja -C build install

For meson build generic options:

meson --help

For a list of project specific options supported:

cat meson_options.txt

To set 1 or more project specific options:

meson --prefix=/path/to -Doption=value [-Dother=value2] [...] . build

To display current configuration:

meson configure build

The above will only work after at least the following is done:

meson . build

** QUICK AND DIRTY HELP **
--------------------------

How clean out the build and config and start fresh:

rm -rf build

How to make a dist tarball and check its build:
(must do it from git tree clone and commit all changes to git first)

ninja -C build dist

How to change prefix:

meson --prefix=/path/to/prefix . build

How to install in a specific destination directory for packaging:

DESTDIR=/path/to/destdir ninja -C build install

How to build with verbose output (full commands run):

ninja -C build -v

enlightenment v23, been out for a little while now.

yeah I was doing this on FreeBSD, and yeah I gave it up. that meson . build part only worked when I found a meson.build then it took me to different things, and I just gave up and am waiting for the version update in my OS (distro)

yet if there is an autogen.sh then run that.

This is not for the linux newbie.
  • You are going to need to uninstall efl and moksha.
  • Delete your ~/.e folder.
  • Uninstall all left over parts of moksha. Modules themes and stuff.
  • You are going to need to install a recent version of meson. You can't use the version in BL 4.5 repos.
  • You need to install all dependencies of both efl and e23.
  • Download the current versions of efl and e23.
  • You then compile and install efl. I would install to --prefix=/usr
  • And then compile and install e23. Likewise, install to --prefix=/usr

Note you prob should do all this from a tty as you are uninstalling your desktop.
If you need further instruction then this is certainly not for you.
