file manager behavior in bodhi 5.0

I don't seem to be able to expand folders in any file manager window. I seem to be able to expand in the folder tree (left side). Is anyone else experiencing this. Perhaps I am missing a setting and would love any help with this issue.

Thanks in advance.

In the left pane of the file manager switch from places to file tree. This would be the only place you could expand folders, that I'm aware of.

Unhappy describing 'expand'

expand = double click and folder then opens. This is the only time that I am not able to do this in a file manager. Pretty sure it is some setting that needs dealt with, but not sure what that setting would be.

is this on a laptop with a touchpad? if so, installing synaptics drivers helped me:
Code:
sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Just for completeness, does one click (i.e., select) and Enter work?

Thumbs up installed, and...

It is a laptop w a touchpad, so I installed per cordx post and rebooted. Results are;

Nautilus is now behaving as I expect, because folders open when double clicked.

PCmanfm does not behave as I expect. Folders are only opened on the left (directory pane). Folders wont open on right side when double clicked.
I believe I will end up just using Nautilus and consider this solved. thanks to all who posted. Really appreciated everyone's help.

i'm glad to hear you have a solution that you can work with and that you had nautilus installed to see the difference. i had an issue last week where caja (the default file manager in ubuntu mate) wouldn't access my external drive, but pcmanfm would. sometimes i think the software is as moody as i am
