Well, that was not a great success! I downloaded Bodhi 5.0 and put it on a memory stick, then booted it. The first time it just froze. The second time it booted v-e-r-y slowly. I chose the Bodhi desktop first rather than going straight to install. I found it confusingly busy, but that's a matter of taste. YMMV. Nice wallpaper though! I was surprised to find that all my Linux partitions were automounted (though not the OpenBSD one). Everything was very slow, much slower than a normal live CD. Why is that, I wonder?
I started the installation and chose "something else", then created a 3 GB partition for Bodhi. No problems except that I found the partitioning program a bit intimidating. It wasn't gparted and it wasn't cfdisk but literally something else! I think partitioning is nerve-racking enough (especially at my age) without having to deal with a new software interface at the same time.
The actual installation went smoothly up to the point where it tried to install GRUB. Most installers give you a choice of where (or whether) to install the bootloader, but this one didn't, it just went ahead. I think it knew that it was in EFI mode and tried to install grub64.efi but it failed. Maybe it couldn't find the ESP, as it had unmounted all partitions as part of the repartitioning job.
Actually I was not particularly bothered at that point because I didn't want GRUB anyway, so I closed the error window and assumed it would just complete with a warning that the system might not boot. Instead I got this:
Quote:
We're sorry: the installer crashed. After you close this window, we'll allow you to file a bug report using the integrated bug reporting tool. This will gather information about your system and your installation process. The details will be sent to our tracker and a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible.

I wasn't able to close the window. I think the whole program was frozen but fortunately the system was still running overall and I was able to choose reboot from the main menu.
I don't seem to have much luck with Bodhi; that's the second time I've failed to install it.
