Distrowatch.com

How often do you use this website?...What are your thoughts?

pan64 05-10-2020 12:19 PM

Never. Probably once a year. How is it related to bodhi? Probably useful for others.

IvoryMale 05-10-2020 12:25 PM

Bodhi

Of course Bodhi is listed on this website with reviews but they have not updated Bodhi's page.

I think I've used this website before. I took a look and it seems to show the 5.1 release

https://distrowatch.com/index.php?distribution=bodhi

I do read farther down in the About Bodhi section
Quote:

By default Bodhi has only five pre-installed applications: Midori, Terminology, PCManFM, ePhoto, and ePad.
Which does not reflect the changes already mentioned in the description for 5.1 (replacing midori/epad with epiphany/leafpad) or that synaptic is now included. But other than that seems ok, perhaps that what you mean about not updated.

Default Apps Need Updating Distrowatch.com

That is correct they have not updated the default applications...

You can probably count the number of times I've visited Distrowatch on the fingers of one hand.

I visit DistroWatch regularly. I look forward to each new edition of DistroWatch Weekly. Just finished reading this week's review of EndeavourOS, which was of interest to me because I ran Antergos for a while. I like to check out the comments section, too.

The page hit rankings are kinda entertaining; accept them for what they are and take it with a grain of salt. Overall, the site is a nice resource for info about various distros.

I also had that thought too. They're not including any console apps in that count.

Almost daily.
I check the "Latest Packages" section on the left side of the page. It lists new package releases, sometimes before the news is posted on the project's own web site.

ondoho 05-12-2020 01:21 AM

It's a useful site when I need to check something out, get a feel for some distro.
I wouldn't put too much trust in their statistics though.
And a distro not listed on distrowatch is not necessarily a bad distro.

I never browse it though, for news or whatever.
But I did find this some time ago. :D

fatmac 05-12-2020 05:35 AM

Seldom...

When I first started out, I'd check it, & distro hop, but I found my preferred kind of distro fairly quickly, & have been with it & similar, ever since. :)

wpeckham 05-12-2020 07:15 AM

I am on distrowatch often, but pages do go dormant if the maintainers stop sending update information to the site. It is not the job of the distrowatch team go go out and research the distributions, they depend upon provided data for that.

I've written to him in the past: Responsive, nice guy!

I use DW about as much as LQ!!! Since my odd interest is: trying any&ALL distros

I just looked at DW/bodhi Glad it uses apt. I'll try it! (I've heard of it, tho it's #40-50s)

sevendogsbsd 05-14-2020 08:41 AM

I go to DW for reviews - I don't care about the rankings because I think they are only based on page hits not actual popularity/quality. There are some real gems in the middle/bottom of the list and some real turds in the top 10 so that just reinforces my theory :) The review links are good I think - gives good info to those who are searching.
