Complaining Bodhi isn't beginner friendly is like using a screw driver to pound in a nail and then complaining the screw driver makes a bad hammer.

Always use the right tool for the task. If you want everything to "just work" and be beginner friendly there are a lot of great Linux projects with that goal.

Bodhi isn't one of them though.

Jeff i am an advocate for bodhi and been using it since version 3 - your comment just seemed rather of a wise-... comment to somebody commenting on the installer icon hard to find. this is not the first time if you read the bodhi forums. Others have complained too. I even had to look around and thought it weird and i have been using bodhi since 3 as i said... boy that is all i meant. anyway - have a nice day!

Laziness is a big point in this argument. Don't see it, look for it, can't find it. Look harder, still can't find it, ask.

saying this is a bad distro just cuz one cannot find something, could be just a cover up for embarrassment for not finding it in the first place.

Sorry if I started an argument... The intent was to just comment on my initial impression. No, I am not a linux newby, and have a fair grasp of how it all fits together (or doesn't...)

Will 5.1 be an <i>Upgrade</i>, or will it need a clean install?

I'm just a run-of-the-mill user: pay bills online, social media, videos, run a few office programs. I'm very happy with the looks and performance of Bodhi 5.0.

BL 5.1 will be, for the most part, an upgrade. No need for a clean install. There may be some changes which apt update/upgrade does not provide but these really don't matter. In a day or so just upgrade your system and you will have BL5.1 or if you wish it now just add our testing repo. and update/upgrade.

Is there going to be a 5.1RC ISO first, or straight to 5.1? I want to try a clean install...

If ya want a 5.1 ISO that is going to have to wait until Jeff has time. He told me last week to go ahead and push Moksha 3.1 to the main repos and write something up for the website. I have been overwhelmed at work and the high temperatures I work in here that I have just not got to yet. Looks like the project for tomorrow tho.

Thanks Robert. I know it seems out of line but it really isn't. 1. why don;t you and stefan just do another distro since you guys do all of the work? I would surely support that and with a bit of cash too.
2. jeff just seems total awol! total apathy. too busy gaming. yes that is harsh but man is he 'asleep at the wheel'. remember that band?

3. i know i am now at the outs but i respect you 2 so much and you both have been there for me as well as the late charles. Jeff is out to lunch permanently. He has lost my respect, sorry to say.

Hmm ya seem to have some mistaken beliefs there dude. We don't do all the work. We do most of the code changes to Moksha and modules and themes (stefan) but there is more to this distro than that. Who keeps the website online and the repos functioning? Who makes sure Bodhibuilder works on making our ISOs? Who does the HTML, css and js and whatever on our website? And lastly who makes the ISO itself?

I barely have time to do what I do and always feel behind schedule. To take on even more: set up servers and find some way to do it for free or to pay for it myself. Try to see if I am a good enough web dev to develop a decent looking web site and know enough to set up a custom repo and package again everything needed and set up a wiki and so on and on. Ya looking at least a month or more of me working my behind off, all day every day, for little to no gain. And I can't do that as that doesn't pay my bills. I do have to have some income to 'float my boat.' I am already lead dev here and have almost as much if not as much input into what Bodhi is as does Jeff.

If for whatever reason I at some point give up on Bodhi and go my own way, I serious doubt it would be to make my own distro/ISO. At least not for public usage. My machines are already customized and some of the code modified to my own needs. I run Bodhi but it is not a default install and I change some things even patch some Ubuntu or other packages. I did that before Bodhi and prob would do that after Bodhi.

Jeff is not awol or apathetic, he is active in discord and helped test moksha 3.1 and is mostly managing things behind the scenes. Yes he is busy and yes he games alot but his gaming is now his job. We all have jobs and other real world concerns. This is a volunteer distro and we work on it as we have time and motivation. Don't be so harsh on Jeff on the limited info ya have.

We are glad you respect our work but as Robert explained there is much more around than you expected.
