Chinese Input help

Hey, I'm new to Linux, I decided to update my wife's old Netbook which can't handle Windows anymore. I put Bodhi Legacy on it. She is Chinese, so she would need Chinese input. I installed language packs and set up the language setting for China, UTF-8. I've tried fcitx and ibus input methods, but nothing seems right. For example, my chinese fonts are all ? or boxes. I used the get command to find ibus-pinyin, but no pinyin input appears on screen. Chinese characters on websites are just boxes with numbers in them.

Is there any up to date guide for Bohdi for Chinese input? Is it even possible to do so?

Hello there

Yes, it is possible

You have to load keyboard module firstly. You can find it under main->settings->modules. The icon on the shelf will appear and you need to add your language layout to that. It is intuitive then. In cas of troubles feel free to ask...

If websites don't show Chinese characters you might be missing Chinese font packages on your system. I'm not familiar with the packages names for those but they exist in both simplified and traditional.

Might be helpful, Bodhi 4.x is based on 16.04 and bodhi 5.x is based on 18.04

LINK about pinyin

Take a look at Deepin. It's developed in China.
