Can not create USB flash drive
 

I am not sure if this is still the case but I find Bodhi 5 will not install from usb - only from dvd!

Bodhi Linux 5 is fully possible to install from USB!

i have only ever done so.

Ah - so what am I doing wrong- it is the only distro I cannot install via usb (I can install Bodhi 4 by usb). All made the same way. I get the “busy box” error and it says no live distro is found. Same iso burned to dvd is no problem.

i use dd for almost all of my live usb's. for some reason it didn't work with void and i had to burn a cd for that, but 99% of the time dd has been solid for me.

I’ve been using Unetbootin for a long time. I think I tried Rufus to burn bodhi 5 as well then gave up and used a dvd. How do you do it in dd?

Do you have problem with Bodhi installing or Bodhi live session running?

It won’t boot to live session so can’t install. But same iso is fine with dvd :-)

I must admit I had once that issue with busy box warning but it was in BL 4. I was probably that person who recommended using DVD instead of USB. No issue on my main PC with BL 5 nor my laptop and some more computers of my colleagues. I will let you know in case I will find something relevant.

One of the working method
After creating USB, do this changes on it:
1) Delete the SYSLINUX.CFG file or rename it to be SYSLINUX.OLD

2) Enter the ISOLINUX folder and rename the ISOLINUX.CFG file to be SYSLINUX.CFG. You may or may not need to rename ISOLINUX.BIN to SYSLINUX.BIN, but it won't hurt.

3) Move up to the top level and rename the ISOLINUX folder to be SYSLINUX

Interesting that someone found zeroing the hard drive worked as I have had issues with installing over an old Linux with grub causing issues ( not with Bodhi though). Although I just deleted the mbr rather than zeroing the drive (always had this after Linux mint had been installed - never use that now!).

They also mentioned the issue was related to multiple HDD installation. I was surprised

Definitely not hard drive related here - I just tried the usb on a machine that I wiped the drive and deleted the mbr on before installing Bodhi. It has Bodhi installed on a wiped drive (via dvd). Running Bodhi live via usb still brings up the busy box intramfs error. So it’s my usb stick or installation on the usb stick. Does the same thing on all my pc’s. And different usb sticks. Only thing I haven’t tried is using a brand new usb stick. But will try what you’ve suggested above (although not quite sure how I do that! Do I need to open the usb in gparted or something?).

Apologies, it wasn’t unetbootin it was universal usb installer - and done on a windows pc. I am going to try re-doing the usb stick in unetbootin on a Linux machine.
