Bodhi Linux - not just for lightweight hardware
 

Hi everyone, I thought I'd share my Bodhi Linux hardware with y'all since it's a bit different.

This is Bodhi 5.0.0 installed on a server with dual Xeon 2690 CPUs (2.9GHz, 3.8GHz turbo) and 96GB of memory plus a dedicated SSD for an additional 200GB of SWAP.

This computer is dedicated to running bioinformatics on genomic data as part of my PhD work, so it's all very trimmed back. I do everything in terminal or Geany and only rarely use other programs. All access to the desktop is via xRDP from my laptop.

I wanted an OS that wouldn't get in the way and would leave as much memory as possible for analyses and I was familiar with Bodhi from using it on some of my old Thinkpads, so it seemed like a good option. I've been happy with how it's working out.

Does anyone else have Bodhi running on pretty powerful hardware? Technically, 2690s are probably considered "legacy" by most people these days, but this thing could probably still run just about anything I throw at it.

There is no reason not to use Bodhi on powerful hardware. I put it on all PCs I maintain around the family and colleagues no matter the hardware. The performance is fantastic and feedback very positive.

I remember when it was 32-bit and the discussions where "when is 64-bit being released ..."

I still think of it as such - and E17 took a while to get used to, so I lost interest.
