Well, not the whole team...I didn't do anything and I'll have words with anyone that says I did!

Kidding aside, hope everyone enjoys 5.0.0, I know the devs put in a lot of effort on it and it looks great!

I translate different software to danish language and wanted to test Bodhi Linux and see how well its translated.

I see some instructions on https://www.bodhilinux.com/w/change-systemlanguage/

Seems like i had to run:
sudo apt-get update

before running:
sudo apt-get install language-pack-nl language-pack-nl-base language-pack-gnome-nl language-pack-gnome-nl-base firefox-locale-nl

Or else the packages could not be found. So maybe update the page.

Its seems like even though i have translated things like ephoto in enlightenment that the translation is not included.
So maybe make sure to get the latest translations before each release.

Maybe Bodhi Linux does not focus on translations which is ok but you could make it easier to change language if you want it to be... easier to change language.
Like not having to enable a module etc.

If I have beta or RC2 installed, will dist-upgrade get me the same thing as release, or is there any need to clean install?

rc2 will dist-upgrade or full-upgrade to the release version. No need to reinstall. The only caveat I think is for folks that want/need uefi.

BL 5.0 seems way faster than BL 4.5 (which was plenty fast). Is that all due to the new kernel, or to a misspent youth catching up with me?

User report on Bodhi 5.0 Legacy on the ASUS 701 EeePC netbook
 

Bodhi Legacy 5.0 installed on my older EeePC, 701 with a 4GiB SSD and a SanDisk type A1 32GiB UHS-1 card inserted into card slot. The previous installation of the same OS, but without the card in place, seemed to run OK, but perhaps it was not to be trusted, given the numerous installer error messages related to inadequate disk space. After the card was inserted, the installation went to completion without 'glitches'.

The installation was primarily directed to the card, but with boot and swap on the SSD. Possibly other directories may be symlinked to the SSD as needed, depending on how much space remains on the drive and whether there would be a speed advantage. This is still a work in progress as the screen hinges have to be lubricated before any additional use, to prevent internal damage to the 701's case.

In a netbook of this age I though using SD memory--that can easily be re-purposed in the future--was the better option than trying to upgrade the SSD. The original SSD's capacity was adequate for 3.x versions of Bodhi, but with the constantly expanding size of Bodhi's Ubuntu base (thanks to Jeff, for explaining Bodhi's size increases), going to 5.0 without extra storage--as far as I could see--wouldn't have been feasible.

This type-A1 card has a controller designed for running programs ('apps', as they say) and if it's OK with 'programs' it should be OK with 'operating systems', as well. It will never reach its advertised read-write speed because that requires the device using it to have A1-compatible SD-adapter circuitry, something not to be found on a 10-year old netbook. Of course, the 701's original SSD was never a read-write speed demon, either, so it remains to be seen how these two forms of storage compare, in actual use.

The kernel in 5.0 Legacy is an excellent match for the 701's graphics hardware: xrandr screen scaling and panning both work perfectly. This really makes the 701's screen usable. One of the versions in Bodhi's 4.x series, I think, was having problems -- due to the kernel, of course -- with xrandr incompatibility. So, it's nice to be on the latest version and still have the netbook working correctly.

In addition to working correctly, both panning and scaling remain unchanged when Moksha is Reset. In Enlightenment, this wiped out the changes until the resolution scripts were run, again.

If there's anything else I shall repost after the 701's screen hinges are safe to use. On the 701SD that I'm now using, I didn't realize what stiff hinges were doing and so the internal plastic support posts required extensive repairs, to prevent the screen--literally--from falling off. It seems on the EeePCs, the hinges wear by becoming tighter, and not looser, as one would normally expect.

Bodhi 5 is absolutely brilliant - and 5 years support - great! And thanks to Ron for explaining how to install it on an Eee 4GB - I found Bodhi 4 fits on mine but not Bodhi 5 but now I know how to get it on there! I also have Bodhi 5 installed on an Eee 701sd and an Eee 900 (installed on the second biggest drive and disable/ignore the 4GB) and it's lovely and fast. I refurb these machines and sell them on for peanuts because I love them :-) Bodhi brings them to life. Our son loved his little Eee PC with Bodhi and supertux.

I have only had two minor issues since installing Bodhi 5 - one still unresolved so advice on this would be appreciated. The first was - touchpad tap not working (necessary with an Eee which has stiff mouse buttons). Resolved by installing synaptics driver.

The second is there are no folders in the file manager for Documents, Pictures etc (which have been there before in Bodhi 4).

One minor request if it's at all possible - is to bring back one of the themes from Bodhi 2.4 which is very popular in our family. A big moon with twinkling stars.

just create whatever folders you need or drag the backup folders.

Thanks - it would be nice to have the folders there as part of the install - as in Bodhi 4 - ready to go. Also I am not experienced enough to know if things will automatically get sent to them if the folders are created.

they are actually in my way when i drag my folders there and some i end yp deleting for no usage for my needs.

It was the legacy install by the way. Same on both machines - no documents etc folders in home folder/file manager. Created ones are plain without the little icons the folders had in Bodhi 4. Anyway - no other real issues so it's minor.

i have no issues here.

Hello there. I am glad to hear you like our Bodhi 5 release. We spent tons of hours of tweaking the Moksha desktop features as well as main theme. In case you liked the BL 2.4 theme, please let me know the theme name and I can try recompile it for you if possible.

PS: be aware this theme lacks the elementary stuff. Thus some apps like ePad will be not themed. The solution is to install another theme similar to moonlight and set it in elementary config. I think the theme arc-dark should be fine.

Hinge-support repairs, successful. Working like new, on both. A word to the wise, if you have the case open, remove the hinges and examine the posts for cracking, before replacing the cleaned and lubricated hinges.

It's easier to repair early cracks that it is to reconstruct, after pieces of plastic start to fall off.

Also, pour contact cleaner into the mouse-button tact switches, alongside the button. The real fix here is to replace them, or if not possible, replace the internal domes. The domes are plated, and become corroded or oxidized with age.

Good afternoon, people! I have some small issues on this incredible Bodhi 5.0. I installed on my EEEPC 1005P (2GB RAM y 180GB HD). Works perfect but the windows didn't rescale correctly. all of them are bigger from my resolution (1024x600). Perhaps it's a stupid question, but i must ask it.. any way to solve it?

Hi again. I am trying the incredible Bodhi 5 and i have small issues. It's first time i use this distro (in my netbook, a EEEPC 1005P). I always used Kubuntu.
My problem is this. I use Firefox and Chromium as default browsers (one personal and the other for work) and when i tried to open or save a file, the dialog menu is bigger than the screen and can't resize. When i use midori, all fine. When I use other apps, all fine. But not with those browsers. Any idea? Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

Yes, this could happen sometimes. It is annoying but possible to solve easily. You can grab the window with pressing ALT + mouse left click and move it to the place you need.

One quirk, why does the caps-lock light come on after turning on or restarting computer, have to tap button twice to turn it off. Even though light is on, need to tap button once to use it.

Didn't see the need to start a topic.

never noticed it on my machines. hmmmm.....

Forgot to mention, didn't have that quirk with 4.5
