Bodhi Applications division

I'm wondering what the difference is between Applications -> Preferences and Applications -> System Tools.

What brings this question to mind is that Synaptic is considered a Preference while AppCenter is a System Tool... Grub Customizer is a Preference but GPartEd is a System Tool...

It makes it hard to remember where to look.

Running Bodhi 5.0.0.

Hello

The app section is defined in control file within deb package. The deb maintainer decides in which category is app considered to be. This will happen in every linux distro. It is not Bodhi related.
It is up to you how you run your application. If you are not OK running it via menu, use quick launcher instead or add your often used apps to favorite menu.

Everything in the menu has a .desktop file, which is a text file with, among other things, a "category" line in it. You can find them in ~/.local/share/applications and /usr/share/applications

I haven't figured out exactly how bodhi/moksha decides what to do when there's more than category listed, but if you only put one category there, then it'll go where you want it.

It doesn't seem you can make up categories tho, that doesn't work, at least when I tried.
