Bodhi 4.5.0-64bit - HPLIP icon jumping from tray to upper left corner

On my Bodhi 4.5.0-64bit I installed the latest hplip-3.18.7.run and added the icon to the tray.
Each time when I'm starting TV-Browser (a JAVA tool for local TV schedule) the HP tray icon jumping to the upper left corner of the screen.

To bring it back to the tray, I always have to close the HP device manager and restart it again.

Is there any way to prevent that icon from jumping, please?

The Moksha systray adheres to all standards for these types of gadgets that I'm aware of. Haven't seen the "jumping" behavior before that you are describing. Does only this one icon "jump" or does the entire tray move on you?

Can you try unloading the systray module in Bodhi (or just removing it from your shelf) and using the trayer package to see if it also has issues with your application? Should help us determine if it is an issue with the java implementation or Moksha.

So far, only the HP icon is affected by the "jumping issue".
To answer your other question could take me a while, because I'm busy on something else currently, and I have to find out what trayer is about, first.

EDIT:
I'm pretty sure, JAVA is not involved, because the HP tray icon just jumped again after starting Firefox 61.0.1.

Sorry, I thought hplip was the java app you were talking about. That specific app must be doing something strange with its systray code to be the only one jumping.

Actually, hplip is no app, it's a driver for almost all HP printers, no matter wheather you own a USB printer,
a network printer or an all-in-one printer from HP.

To find out more about it, have a look at this, please (especially the .run file).

If you have a HP printer, the .run file will install the necessary driver, together with a GUI and perform the configuration
in order to make the printer (and scanner, if any) work properly.

Sorry for the delay...

I just installed the trayer package, but I cannot find it anywhere in order to activate it.

Where is the trayer module and what does the icon look like?

EDIT:
I realized, I have to start trayer using the terminal, but I wasn't able to add any icons there.

If you have trayer loaded and unload the Moksha systray module anything you load that puts a tray icon should put it into trayer by default.

madmax25 08-21-2018 09:47 AM

How do I load trayer properly?

Sorry, I don't get it, how to make trayer work and exactly what module is it I'm supposed to unload (where is the Moksha systray module)?

I can start trayer, but I guess, starting it isn't the same as loading it.

Hello there

I know this tray module issue for some time. This also happens with Goldendict app but randomly from my POV. I need the reproduce the situation when it happens to follow the issue and solve it. This bug is on my TO-DO list.

@ the_waiter
You may try the tool "TV-Browser".
Almost each time, I'm using (i.e. closing) this tool within Bodhi, the HP tray icon is jumping to the upper left corner.

Bodhi 4.5.0-64bit - HPLIP icon jumping from tray to upper left corner

OK. Thx. I will try it

madmax25 10-06-2018 11:23 AM

No news about this?

Well, how about this:

Seems like I have to wait a few seconds without doing anything, before I close TV-Browser.
By doing so it is at least more likely for the HP-icon not to jump anymore.

Sorry, I tried some other possibilities for reproducing your issue. I did not wanna make my system messy with hp stuff. Unfortunately/fortunately all my icons stay on the right place...
