I guess, the problem nowadays is, the support of 32bit hardware is being discontinued for more and more system packages, or developers of applications move on to 64bit and therefore, these applications refuse to work (properly) on 32bit.

For example, I have an online banking software, which used to work great on systems based on Ubuntu, up to Ubuntu 16.04 (I have only LTS versions).
But it's tricky to make it working on Ubuntu 18.04, because that software depends on a package called GTK 2, but Ubuntu 18.04 has got GTK 3.

quite possibly so. the world as i have come to understand it definitely does keep moving in the bigger faster more direction.

i am personally in favor of minimalism (within reason). i'm just not sure that is the way i see (albeit from a very limited american perspective) the world turning :)
