anyone see SEF around?

I had to ask since the old forum folded. anyone see SEF or a number of the regulars around? I see stefan and even Charles and Jeff is around. Raskin too. but was wondering about other members of our old Bodhi family.

the_waiter 09-16-2018 03:59 PM

I can see Tristam mainly on Discord forum. He is active. Hmm, Sef, I can ask Jeff if he is in touch with him.

Anyway @hemlocktree, is this your same nick as in old forum? I can not remember you. Sorry my brain takes too much info everyday :)

PS: I really miss our old forum :(

hemlocktree 09-16-2018 04:12 PM

graywizard

the_waiter 09-16-2018 04:20 PM

Ahhh :) Old good wizard... I thought it is you but had to ask

hemlocktree 09-16-2018 04:25 PM

ya - i was very upset when the forum closed down overnight. so much good info lost on it and a community that was abandoned, in a sense. Maybe this will slowly take off here. :-)))

p.s. knowing the little i know and how much i love bodhi i needed a support system that could help through the weird rare glitch if/when it occurs. actually tried Ubuntu 18.04 - but it was Ok and some mods were great but 2 admnins had a god complex. treated a number of people badly and even some older guys my age or a bit younger. then Bodhi 5 came out and i went back. but never would have left 4.5 if the forums did not go kaput!

hemlocktree 09-16-2018 04:31 PM

generally these forums are quite nice and the mods the few i see here are pretty light handed about controlling things and this place runs rather smoothly. Plus for linux questions!!!

sef 09-17-2018 02:34 PM

I'm here, just not too often.
Like the others I miss the old forums too. And although I like this one just fine, I was very comfortable with the old one. I guess it'll just take some getting used to.

hemlocktree 09-17-2018 02:39 PM

Hey!!!!! i thought i lost a friend. thanks for responding. Charles seems to be out more than in. waiter is here and so is rashkin. wish pm's worked here but notta.

hope all is well!!!!!!

tristam 09-17-2018 03:00 PM

I'm definitely not around. Nope, never, not a bit. You didn't see me...

Randy4bodhi 09-17-2018 03:06 PM

I usually check in here once a day. But it's not the same as the old forum. (this is Randy or rfry85, can't remember exactly which name I used in Bodhi forum)

the_waiter 09-17-2018 03:10 PM

anyone see SEF around?

I must confess, I was so frustrated of the forum lost that I was very close to lost interest to Bodhi distro :(

Randy4bodhi 09-17-2018 03:12 PM

That would of been a huge loss!. You are the bug killer! I'm glad your still around, as well as the rest of you!

tristam 09-17-2018 03:16 PM

Blame the EU. GDPR killed the forums.

I have to confess the same. I was very close too, but after envisioning my life (or rather my computers) without Bodhi/Moksha I had to muster up the intestinal fortitude and at least try to make it work. It was a hard hit, for sure, but we need to keep this thing going. It seems as though many many people like Bodhi based on the number of ISO downloads at sourceforge. Besides how else would we all be able to keep our old PC's up and running so long? :)

@Hemlocktree -- After a second look through the thread, I just realized that it's Greywizard! Good to hear from you friend! Hope all is well.

It would be great if this site had the ability to PM other members.

the_waiter 09-17-2018 03:28 PM

anyone see SEF around?

Does Reddit forum have the pm? Or generaly, is it better place for us or not?

the_waiter 09-17-2018 03:30 PM

anyone see SEF around?

@Randy, thx for nice words. But I am also a bugs creator :)

sef 09-17-2018 03:31 PM

Not sure about reddit. I have been there once.

hemlocktree 09-17-2018 03:42 PM

not a fan at all of reddit. sorry - been there done that! if you pay here there is a pm - if not no pm.

Hey Randy and tristam.... i left bodhi and redid 3 laptops with something else and still wasn't happy and checked into other stuff but had to come back.

lost some grapes to squirrels mostly they ripped my 2 new nets into shreds and damaged the rest of the rows. costly.

so i ended up with 21 gals only after the racks. they are sitting in the carboys until final rack and bottle.

found some great mercier med toast oak this year. need to pick up 5 lbs for next year but still have some older french chips to use.

just[planted very late 25o garlic and the rest of my fall stuff. still harvesting stuff too and eating a bucnh of homemade jams daily with homemade breads. bunch os sauce in freezer and peppers and tomatoes.

way behind on firewood too.

:-)))

tristam 09-17-2018 03:57 PM

What is it with garlic and wine? There's a vineyard between work and home that has an annual Wine and Garlic Festival.

hemlocktree 09-17-2018 03:58 PM

just a thought - and a bad one on my end. but i have a poodlemail account - that we could use to send me names and contact emails and maybe i could put a list together so we have contact to each other if things go down the tubes again.... my real 2 protonmail accounts are my personal and i have a biz email through my website host server; but the other mentioned might be doable. thoughts????

hemlocktree 09-17-2018 03:59 PM

gilroy CA?????

i love garlic and use a lot of it. i can eat 3 slices of pizza and eat a whole BULB raw. wife gets ticked.... i am happy....

tristam 09-17-2018 04:10 PM

I've got unlimited mailman lists through my hosting provider if y'all want a mailing list.

And no, the vineyard is in Virginia

hemlocktree 09-17-2018 04:15 PM

oh ok.

i personally not into the mail list... seen a great forum in UK change to email lists and they lost 80% of the people and to hard to read all that stuff in the formats that was provided. my list of emails would be sent back in encrypted emails to the participants so no one would be online through this forum re; their respective contacts. the list would be sent to participants as such... maybe at this time to some of the old forum people to make sure new ones are not scams. not being elitist/exclusionist - just trying to do it right for everyone.

I'm in if you can figure something out.

Your not supposed to admit that! Just take credit for fixing them!

Randy4bodhi 09-17-2018 07:10 PM

@hemlock, it sounds like you did pretty well overall, even with the extra attention of the squirrels.

hemlocktree 09-17-2018 07:13 PM

Ok - let's see what some of the others want to do. after the forum went down - and yes it was overnight; i saw some french guy post a question about the eu thing and next morning - no forum. i do not see anyone else closing up shop. to me seems like an easy fix to have people sign in with some clause to cover jeff's butt and that is it. personally i think it was way overkill. and like the eu is going to chase bodhi down with so many hundreds of thousands of sites that are larger if not huge. so not having access to people to ask a question if needed and to just keep some community contact ad hoc was shot. Hence this offer.

rrashkin 09-18-2018 08:09 AM

I don't think I ever contemplated abandoning Bodhi (although I DID look at Lubuntu just to see where it had got to), but I was worried I might not be able to get any help. I am glad to see the support system is still (largely) extant. Is Charles around?

hemlocktree 09-18-2018 09:13 AM

saw a post or two a few weeks back wen i was checking this place out. i hope all is well with him...
same with ylee

the_waiter 09-18-2018 10:39 AM

anyone see SEF around?

Ylee is OK. I am in touch with him on fb. Too engaged with his job these days.

tristam 09-18-2018 10:40 AM

Jeff and Ylee are doing well. They busted their rumps on 5.0 and are basking in the glory at the moment. As for the forums coming down, that was the safe option. Bodhi doesn't exactly have an attorney on retainer. The fines listed in GDPR are ginormous. There's possibility, no matter how slight, that some America hating bureaucrat somewhere in the EU would get bored and decide to go after American entities over GDPR violations. Jeff chose not to put his financial future at risk over that which I completely understand. I sure couldn't afford a 2 Million Euro fine or whatever it was. It happened "overnight" because I'm a competent sysadmin, so when Jeff said, "Nuke it from orbit" I did as instructed and obliterated it with alacrity and thoroughness. The real travesty is that GDPR is allowed to affect American entities.

hemlocktree 09-18-2018 10:49 AM

i understand all of that stuff; but...

hemlocktree 09-18-2018 11:13 AM

so who is in to share emails? i will do it as discreetly as i can re: encryption to you. let me know - so i can start the process or just forget about it.

thanks my friends. my dyslexic typing always says fiends...... heh heh heh heh heh heh
