Grrrr

Posted 11-08-2013 at 11:35 AM by zaivala

My netbook died. It was good, in that I could run Win7 (not bad), any Linux I wanted to (mostly Puppy/MacPup), and even came with a quickboot to ASUS' own version of Linux desktop.

So I bought a new ASUS (actually, two -- identical ones for myself and my fiance). The new machine, an X550CA, has UEFI on it and Windows 8 (now 8.1). I can't even get it to boot from the disk drive, the USB drives... some websites said that if I disabled QuickBoot I could get to "Legacy Boot" but that doesn't happen -- I can disable Windows Boot but then it just boots back to Setup and goes nowhere beyond that.

I really, really don't like Win8. I don't see a need for two desktops, where most things I click on from one desktop (tiles) opens the other one before loading the program. I would like to get LinuxMint on this system, either dualboot or by itself. (Probably safer dualboot, but I do tend to be all-or-nothing mentality).

I have tried to contact ASUS, but their website is really slow and does not address this issue. And they seem to have forgotten my login. I have read forum after forum, and gotten no more than "your system may be different from mine" (duh!).

Any help, contact me on Facebook moss.bliss or zaivalananda@gmail.com
