GPartEd Is Your Friend

Posted 06-17-2020 at 12:02 AM by zaivala

My laptop has now gone from a single partition to 2 to 3 and now 4, featuring Linux Mint 19.3, Pearl OS 9, Bodhi 5.1 and now Manjaro Cinnamon. The last one was just added a couple nights ago. And while I had been keeping things simple on my desktop, I had fun playing with GPartEd tonight, getting rid of an unneeded GRUB partition (the boot is from EFI) and moving things around to where I have 3 partitions and over 8 Gb of Swap, with Linux Mint, Bodhi 5.1, and... Well, I was going to try Manjaro Architect. I liked the concept of it. But when you get the installer up and nothing makes any sense or has any explanations, you go find something else. My next choice was going to be Sabayon, but I just didn't feel like spending 3 hours doing an install tonight. I thought about echoing Manjaro Cinnamon, but ultimately decided on OpenMandriva Lx 4.1.

All are up and running smoothly. I still have not figured out how to get two of my very few games on Manjaro or OpenMandriva (well, maybe I got PySolFC on Manjaro, don't remember), just can't find Nethack on either system even though Arch is supposed to have everything. I run Nethack-x11 on all .deb-based systems.

I also can't figure out how to put my VPN on it (Mullvad). They have a wonderful app for .deb-based systems and also for Fedora, but the Fedora .rpm app does not work on other .rpm systems like OM4.

I usually can figure out how to install SoftMaker Office. Didn't manage it tonight on OM4 but I didn't give it a full try.

Always something to learn. And sometimes I throw in the towel.

I will say that, in all the years I've used GPartEd, I haven't lost a byte of data since 2005 (I've been using it since 2002, and it did have some bugs in the early years). I moved partitions around like crazy tonight and everything works.
