HyperTransport Sync Flood Error, 3.* series kernel , MSI mobo

Posted 08-22-2014 at 04:13 AM by Yury_T

After installing the slackware 14.1/amd64 (kernel 3.*) on the machine with MSI K8-something motherboard (integrated nvidia adapter, nouveaux nvidia driver), I began to experience freezes after start of Firefox, of all things. Memtest showed no faults, voltage tuning didn't help.

The problem has been (seemingly) solved by setting the on-board video adapter memory window size (or whatever this setting is called) to the minimal 16Mb (the default was 64Mb).

How to set up SQLite database as a (read-only) bibliography database in the LibreOffice/OpenOffice

Posted 10-24-2013 at 02:49 AM by Yury_T

Folks have not-so-positive experience with the LibO/OOO default bibliography database, what with it being effectively either of HSQLDB or CSV text type, for one. One would want to have more choice as to the database type, and to have it storaged more effectively, and in single file, preferrably. Also, there are many popular tools for other database engines, and HSQLDB seems somewhat isolated in this aspect, restricted to all-Java projects, too.

E.g., you might want to have two sets...

UI font substitution in newer versions of LibreOffice

Posted 04-18-2013 at 01:29 PM by Yury_T
Updated 12-27-2014 at 02:44 AM by Yury_T

May be old news, but in the recent versions of LibreOffice the old recipe of changing the UI font by setting a substitution for the 'Andale Sans UI' face stopped working.
These days, for the 'generic' locales (for which there's no specially pre-formed list of fonts) you have to set a substitution face for the 'Segoe UI' instead.

December 2014 update: In 4.3.* series the menubar will still use the GTK default font, though (menus themselves will show in substituted face).

inverse graphics objects printing (with text printing okay)

Posted 02-13-2012 at 04:15 AM by Yury_T

For those of you who's getting inverse (black in place of white and vice versa) graphics objects in your printouts in an environment similar to "out-of-the-box" slackware 13.37 on 64-bit platform (so, ghostscript 9.00):

Just upgrade ghostscript to 9.02. The problem is the GS previos version's pstoraster.

Many thanks to Michael R. Sweet for his CUPS raster viewer (http://www.easysw.com/~mike/rasterview/) which enabled me to pinpoint the problem quickly!

OpenMPI interface for FreePascal/Linux

Posted 09-16-2011 at 03:10 AM by Yury_T
Updated 09-16-2011 at 03:46 PM by Yury_T (post link to the updated interface)

The very initial, assuredly incomplete interface. Had to quickly produce something suitable for the course of parallel computations.

Converted from OpenMPI 1.2.9 header by h2pas. Made additional modifications. Only two default communicators supported now, WORLD and SELF. Might work for entire 1.2.* OpenMPI series.

upd: Added a bunch of ompi_... datatypes and handlers. Might be nearing a practical completness limit. Of the minimal 6 functions set, MPI_Init, MPI_Finalize...
