unetbootin is the worst!
Can someone please tell my why unetbootin does not work right when using linux? I can only get bootable usb devices created properly when I used the Windows version in Windows. Even then, when I tried creating a bootable usb with the latest Debian live 8.1, it will not run the live gui, only the graphical install. I've tried out a couple other usb creation programs (win32 disk imager, and rufus), Rufus seems to work better, but they both give me errors during creation. But the live filesystems do work when using these alternatives. I think part of the problem with unetbootin is that it attempts to put it's own boot files in place of the bootable iso files, and this causes conflicts at times. It also does not seem capable of creating a bootable usb with xwindows at all.

I'm not really interested in trying to argue in defense of it, but the only problem I recall having had was that for some reason, some of the default distro options wouldn't work, I'd need to download the iso. I've only used the Debian version, usually from Debian testing, but at different releases of testing.
That and that in a given laptop I seldom could boot anything from an USB stick written on it, but I really didn't compare with other alternatives and it's probably at least partly fault of the laptop as well, if not exclusively.
But it wasn't like I really used it that regularly anyway.
And now that I think better I think a few times it would give me some grub menu options that would end up in just a blinking CLI cursor, but I guess it was related with particular distro choice(s).

No linux tool has ever worked for me when trying to create a bootable usb drive. That is 2 versions of debian, one or two versions of redhat, 2 different laptops and 3 different desktops.
The same tool usually works when I use the windows version.
I just can't stand it when all these websites tell you that it will, until you realize they were just looking for clicks on their page.

I've had the opposite luck as I never use Windows except to tune motorcycles. But I have mtools and p7zip-full installed.
I dd hybrid isos with no problemo also.

If that is the only "problem", then there is nothing to complain about. The only difference between the graphical and GUI installers is the latter uses the mouse. Although I have read reports from many people having unbootable systems after using Unetbootin. Hence why most people recommend not using it. i always dd hybrids
