SUSE Linux 9.3 in VirtualBox

SUSE Linux 9.3 was released April 15, 2005.

SUSE Linux 9.3's installation gained the ability to detect and automatically add GRUB boot for Linux installations on other partitions of the same system. KDE and GNOME both saw version bumps, and the former and YaST saw a new, crisper theme based on KDE's Plastik theme but with customization from SUSE. This release also was the first to include OpenOffice.org 2, which saw a large overhaul of the interface of OpenOffice.org and the adoption of the OpenDocument format still used today.

Firefox reached version 1.0. This also the last release in which the Mozilla browser was included, so I gave it a run for one last time.

When setting up this version of SUSE Linux, in VirtualBox's new Virtual Machine wizard I selected "openSUSE (32-bit)" as the operating system. Note however that the hard disk will be SATA by default. You will have to go into the machine's settings and change the hard disk controller from SATA to IDE in order for SUSE Linux to recognize the hard disk. I otherwise did not run into trouble setting up and running SUSE Linux 9.3. I also suggest going into the Input menu and unselect "Mouse Integration".
