SUSE Linux 9.2 in VirtualBox

SUSE Linux 9.2 was released October 25, 2004, five days after Ubuntu had its first release.

Novell's influence grew more visible in this release, with SUSE being described as a "Novell Business" in the wallpaper. Many users found Novell's influence off-putting, especially in some of their intellectual property agreements in years to come.

GNOME and KDE saw version bumps. There are visible tweaks to the GNOME and KDE themes. OpenOffice.org surprisingly integrates with KDE's theming. Firefox is still in pre-release.

When setting up this version of SUSE Linux, in VirtualBox's new Virtual Machine wizard I selected "openSUSE (32-bit)" as the operating system. Note however that the hard disk will be SATA by default. You will have to go into the machine's settings and change the hard disk controller from SATA to IDE in order for SUSE Linux to recognize the hard disk. I also suggest going into the Input menu and unselect "Mouse Integration".
