SuSE Linux 6.2 in VirtualBox

On August 12, 1999, SuSE Linux 6.2 found itself released.

KDE 1.1.1 seems to have brought more stable programs and a few more modules in the Control Center, although SuSE seems to have added extra buttons to the KDE panel. GNOME struggled similarly as it did in SuSE Linux 6.1 to run with a window manager. Netscape Communicator seems to have had some minor upgrades without many visible changes compared to the version included in SuSE Linux 6.0. It is at once both amusing and cringeworthy to see the 16 colors in KDE's panel change around when Netscape runs.

Throughout the SuSE 6.x series to get graphics it was easiest to go to a root terminal, type "sax -w xterm", which tricks SaX into opening xterm alongside itself. Once a bunch of tiny windows with loading bars finish, I then typed "kde" or "gnome-session" into xterm. Setting the OS to Linux kernel 2.2 in the VirtualBox New VM wizard, there were little hiccups with set up and installation. Unfortunately I couldn't get any graphics better than 16 colors with a 640-x480 resolution in this release.
