Changing username of your machine

Always use usermod command to change username or the properties of the user like UID etc.
Do not go for manual editing in /etc/shadow, /etc/passwd and /etc/groups file to change your username, password or UID etc.
It corrupts the entries so much so that you will not be able to access other disk partitions other than the one in which Ubuntu is installed. Also you will not be able to login as root.
