jetson orin nano
I bough a nvidia jetson orin nano 8G. I thought it is a popular AI SBC and would work straight out the box. But no, that is not the case. cannot boot? See a black screen/turn off after turn on? It's due to the bootloader issue that nvidia didn't emphasis on their website.
Seems like the jetson pack 5 and jetson pack 6 are not compatible. Unless you have a ubuntu or linux machine that could be connected to your sbc through usb-c, you will need to work around the procedure.
The black screen phenomenon or the turning off after sd card read is because you have jetson pack 5 on your sd card. There are multiple versions of jetson pack 5 (5.11 or 5.13). And, if you have tried the jetson pack 6 three consecutive times in a row until it boots up in safety mode, you will continue to face the same phenomenon.
The details are outlined in the following page:
https://www.jetson-ai-lab.com/initia...l#__tabbed_2_2
but it is just not obvious enough. The version number also seems very weird. If it came outside the box, you will see the version: 3.0-32616947 (third row, under the not specified text), which is nothing close to 36.3 that was highlighted in the following link:

So do this instead

So do this instead
- flash your sd card with jetson pack 5.13.
- default your boot up to normal instead of recovery. Device Manager → NVIDIA Configuration → L4T Configuration → OS chain A status → (The value is Unbootable if UEFI attemps recovery kernel) choose Normal → Save and exit, reboot, UEFI will try Direct Boot.
- following the OS install procedure as normal.
- after you see a desktop ui, reboot and press esc key again to find the version updated to: 36.3.0-gcid-36106755.
- now pull out your sd card and flash with jetson pack 6.
- then you can push in your sd card to follow the normal jetson pack 6 installation procedures.

I must confess I initially clicked on this blog because I thought of the old Jetsons cartoon from the 1970.
I'm glad you figured it out and got it to work.
And now I wonder how much work it would take to build a Linux From Scratch system for that hardware. That might be interesting.Posted 09-15-2024 at 11:10 AM by jr_bob_dobbs
