Standard user account
Just like in Windows, it's a bad idea to run everything as administrator (aka "root").
Run the `# adduser` command to make a standard account for yourself.

Textmode multitasking
You don't have to run `startx` as soon as you're logged in: use the Alt-F1, Alt-F2, Alt-F3 combos to switch between terminals.

Disabling history in the shell
If you're like me, you don't want the history to be preserved across sessions....

Gnome-open

Open a text file in CLI

If you are working on the command line and you want an application to open a text file, do it
running a command.
However, this requires you to know the name of the application, which can be difficult to remember,(bad memory!) Especially if you don't know what application it was written in! But Linux has a solution for people like us. Its called gnome-open.

Gnome-open actually makes use of the gnome file handlers to decide what kind...
