The Brother printer driver for my printer runs into SELinux problems post-install. Fortunately, the selinux troubleshooter made this a trivial fix:
Code:
semanage fcontext -a -t cupsd_etc_t /etc/opt/brother/Printers/mfcj6710dw/inf
restorecon -v /etc/opt/brother/Printers/mfcj6710dw/inf
semanage fcontext -a -t cupsd_var_run_t /etc/opt/brother/Printers/mfcj6710dw/inf/brmfcj6710dwrc
restorecon -v /etc/opt/brother/Printers/mfcj6710dw/inf/brmfcj6710dwrc

I learned how to share printers with cups

Once I started learning NFS, I initially assumed that it is a Unix only version of Samba. I thought that it would obviously include sharing printers too. However, I was wrong. While Samba allows you to share printers, NFS can't. However, there is a simpler method. CUPS allows you to share printers with all your the Linux computers on your network, through a web interface. It is extremely simple and works right out of the box.

Printer Installation/Printing

  1. It's important to check if the printer is 'enabled' from the Admin settings
  2. It's important to set the location of the printer to the hostname i.e. if your computer hostname is 'MYCOMP', the location of the printer should say 'MYCOMP' -- at least in two distros i've seen it to be left blank (and as a result printer was not working -- it was showing up on the menus -- but not doing anything)...
