Install a Linux distro in VirtualBox

I am assuming that you have already installed VirtualBox and that your CPU supports virtualization, using either Intel VT-x or AMD-V (SVM) which has been enabled in the BIOS.

The ISO file for the Linux distro (e.g. MX Linux) to be installed in VirtualBox has been downloaded to the user’s Downloads directory.

Open VirtualBox and click on New.

1. Enter a descriptive name into the Name box (e.g. MX Linux).
2. Select Linux as the Type.

What is Heads all about?

Heads is a GNU/Linux liveCD distribution aimed at people who like the aspect of controlling their privacy and anonymity on the Internet. You might have heard of Tails as a similar GNU/Linux distribution. heads was born as an answer to Tails, since Tails is using systemd as an init system and also contains non-free software.

In heads, the init of choice is not systemd. systemd is a huge piece of software that,...

Preserving your existing Home partition when installing a new distro

IMPORTANT

Regardless of the following suggestion on how to preserve your current Home (/home) partition, it is ESSENTIAL to also make a BACKUP of all existing personal data, just in case anything goes wrong!

The backup, to an external hard drive or similar, should include the following:

bookmarks.html (Firefox in my case)
Email profile folder (Thunderbird in my...

Distro Hopping

Posted 10-31-2012 at 11:50 AM by scorpioofthewoods

We all do it at one time or another. At some point(s) the urge hits you for whatever reason to try another distro. So lately I have been distro hopping.

I was happily using Debian Sid some time ago for quite awhile. But then my time became limited and things got a little crazy when Gnome 3 started rolling in. So at that time I switched to Ubuntu. Ubuntu is great when you don't have much time to play with your OS and just want things to work (for the most part). I have used it for...

Stable Linux Distro for frequent power cuts

Posted 08-26-2011 at 12:15 PM by nayeem

Hello Friends,

I am trying out different Linux Distros, some are easy to use some take time(me being a windows user!). Now I have a different kind of problem, I live in a place where power cuts are frequent so I would like to know if there is any distro which remain stable even if it is not shut down properly and the power goes. I mean when the power comes back it should not give me surprises in the form of warnings or becoming unstable or corrupting the data.

Thanks....
