I was on the forums as sossego; but, since I have a tendency to be emotional and not much on censorship, I have been banned from there.

It was a nice ride.
however, I really do suggest people use Debian because it can be scaled.

Debian Lenny + GUI = ?

Yet another - to debian.
Few days ago I was trying to make a backup and write it on DVD. But failed to do so with:
1. nautilus (recently i used that, it was a simpliest way)
2. xfburn (i use xfce)
3. brasero.
All of them either hang or fall when I add too many files. Well, what the heck if I don't have any other choice? I need all of those files.
I was beginning to think about frontend to "genisoimage"... say, a GTK app, allowing to create an...

Fighting with xfce 4.6 installation on debian

I was kinda disappointed i can't properly install xfce 4.6 on debian lenny with aptitude. Also tried backports with issues like here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ys-4.4-775588/
I decided to go the proven (cloacms++) way of building from sources.
So, i fetched all(almost) files from http://mocha.xfce.org/archive/xfce-4.6.1/src/
and started building. I removed my xfce 4.4 installation and built libraries...

Debootstrap Yourself, or "What is a good distro for my old computer?" (2)

And why am I doing this instead of a normal install? Well, that involves a rain storm, an experiment, and an eBay purchase. The end result was not being able to boot from the CD-ROM. Since it's too old to boot from USB, and flashy new Linux kernels have forsaken floppy installs, my options narrowed considerably. During the course of my research I stumbled across "debootstrap", and the rest is written below.
