USB Sound Card + Puppy Linux 430

One of our volunteers has a Sony Vaio tiny laptop (the type now known as 'netbook'), several years old, given to her by a friend-- but with the hard drive removed (presumably to protect data). She had been using Knoppix, but couldn't get online. So...I set her up with Puppy Linux 430 on a CD + a USB flash drive for saving the pup_save file. Worked great.
One of the terrific things about Puppy is that it has a great record of getting connected to the Internet via modem (even some softmodems!) or network (DSL, etc). So this person could connect via modem or wireless (or whatever else was available).
But one day, she said, "It's wonderful...but I don't have any sound." Oh my. I never thought about that. So I did some fiddling with no success, and then did some research. I found something I didn't know existed! A USB audio card which could take the place of the sound card that wasn't working with Puppy (or Knoppix). We have a good place to buy such things in the Puget Sound area--Infotech in Federal Way
( http://infotechnow.com ). Well, I did check closer to home, but found either nothing or something way out of our price range. Got it in Fed. Way for about $15.
It didn't seem to work at first...but I had been fiddling with the sound stuff before, so I looked in the menu and found Multiple Sound Card Wizard--and sure enough, when I started it, there was the USB card listed with the internal card. So I selected it, clicked OK and rebooted per instructions. Voila!--Sound!
