Ethernet disconnects on battery power/ac power is unplugged.

Posted 01-22-2015 at 12:18 PM by s.verma

This problem may be due to the fact that laptop-mode tools is running and it's configuration has entry

DISABLE_ETHERNET_ON_BATTERY=1
in file /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/ethernet.conf

or may be in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf file.

So change it to
DISABLE_ETHERNET_ON_BATTERY=0
and now restart the laptop-mode service.

(If you do not know how to (re)start a service, then search on google for how to start/restart a service...

Debian doesn't mount pen drive correctly.

Posted 09-07-2014 at 12:31 AM by s.verma

There is a case of Debian when after installing it via pen drive made by unetbootin (or may be any other usb iso creater), it works fine with a full desktop environment except for one thing, "the pen drive/removable drive doesn't mount with read/write or just incorrectly"

For this just edit your /etc/fstab file and find line starting from something /dev/sdx1 where sdx is going to be your pen drive and comment it out e.g. if I have only one hard disk then it would be /dev/sda,...

A short story of (En)Lightening KDE SC 4 Desktop

This is my personal experience with KDE SC 4 (specifically 4.12) on Arch Linux.
I have been using KDE SC 4 for few days and on startup, my RAM usage were ~600 MB (Nepomuk disabled, but akonadi server running). Then one day there was thunderstorm outside, there began raining, and suddenly with a flash of lightening a change came into my mind. I opened KDE SystemSettings, then go to Default Applications-> Window Manager and...

This article shows how to create an Arch Linux package
1) when you have got pre-compiled binary files available
or
2) have debian/fedora .deb/.rpm packages available and you have extracted them and got usr/, etc/, etc. directories with installable files in them. Hence want to convert deb/rpm packages into Arch Linux packages.

For this you have to create a directory structure let say
~/foobar/src
Also create ~/foobar/PKGBUILD.
Edit this...
