Ethernet disconnects on battery power/ac power is unplugged.

This problem may be due to the fact that laptop-mode tools is running and it's configuration has entry

DISABLE_ETHERNET_ON_BATTERY=1
in file /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/ethernet.conf

or may be in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf file.

So change it to
DISABLE_ETHERNET_ON_BATTERY=0
and now restart the laptop-mode service.

(If you do not know how to (re)start a service, then search on google for how to start/restart a service in linux).

I have also noticed that even if laptop-mode is not running then also by default system may exhibit this characteristic. So in that case you may install laptop-mode tool and then do the above changes and then start laptop-mode service.
