Marketing to home users.

I've been wondering of late what can be done about stepping up the marketing of Linux to home users. Probably the only company that would have any interest in doing this is Canonical. The other big Linux players aim themselves more at corporate use and those large organisations that do supply Linux PCs to home users no doubt have pressure put on them to keep it low key from Microsoft.
There was the Linux Foundation video competition some time ago and Ken Starks' foray into radio advertising. Also, there's the Linux Dairy Council Google group but not really that much else that's distro neutral to help raise Linux's profile in an accessible way. There are distro specific testimonials on just about every forum and a small section of success stories here which could be a starting point for something, but what...? Would a 'Linux Testimonial' Facebook group be useful?
