A puzzling observation...

Recently, at work, I've been involved in/initiated a project to migrate some desktop PCs to Linux. Naturally, I sought advise from various Linux community sources including here. A lot of the responses I got quite rightly pointed out potential pitfalls. A few responses pointed out positive aspects. There were even responses that were, to me, entirely negative and seemed to pooh-pooh the idea that there could possibly be a problem with our current Windows desktops that Linux could resolve.
Having taken on board the potential pitfalls and the positive aspects, I went ahead and made my presentation to the relevant managers. I found them to be entirely receptive to the benefits Linux could bring, to the extent that I believe they were already strongly considering Linux desktop clients as a future development.
So, in conclusion, I think there is a place of Linux desktops in business/enterprise environments and I believe the people that manage these kinds of environment are very much coming round to that point of view too. We, as in the Linux community, just need to believe that ourselves and make an effort to promote Linux as a solution. As I see it, increased adoption of desktop Linux will bring benefits to the Linux community as more users/developers will lead to more itches being scratched - more features being added to applications, applications being created to meet needs, existing applications getting the required 'polish'.
