The "sed" command doesn't need quotes

Posted 09-15-2017 at 03:20 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

You may have some trouble when trying to make sed replacements along the lines of:

sed 's|$originalpath|$otherpath/$filename|'

If the variables contain things like the "-" character, or some other special characters, some of the sed commands may be terminated before they should, in error, as it's taking part of the variable as sed commands, rather than parameters. Something like that. Then the variables would ideally be quoted, but with the outermost quotes,...

SONY XPERIA X Compact - data transfer

Posted 09-15-2017 at 09:29 AM by error_401 (LINUX mostly DEBIAN - hardware and software)
Updated 09-15-2017 at 09:31 AM by error_401

Got a new phone and ran into the usual trouble of how to get my pics and stuff on the phone to my computer.

Tried a couple of manual hacks which can work but are awkward such as mounting the device. The security on the new Android 6 + 7 messes up quite a bit of stuff there and all I want to do is transfer files back and forth. Pics from the phone to the computer some music to the phone.

SOLUTION

KDE Connect works just great

Run your Slackware system with the latest available kernel – 4.13.2!

Posted 09-14-2017 at 11:02 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

NEWS 170914
Kernel 4.13.2-x86_64-exton is my newest Slackware kernel. Kernel 4.13.2 was released by Kernel.org yesterday. (September 13, 2017).

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware Current (14.2) and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk and SlackEX. The kernel is compiled exactly in the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 4.13.2-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 4.13.2 is...

linuxgalaxy.org down for cleaning and upgrades.

Posted 09-04-2017 at 03:56 PM by kingbeowulf

My hobby server is down while I fix up the ol' gal. The boot HD was an antique 40GB IDE Seagate that has started to flutter a bit. 15+yrs continuous use. Not bad. I'll move data to a new 1GB WD SATA drive and move on up to Slackware-14.2 "real soon now." I might even get done by the time current hits RC1 ! At this point I am not sure if I'll finally toss this old 2000 vintage HP Compaq d530 CMT (P4 2.66Ghz, 2GB). I had neglected cleaning it for a bit, and the case had quite a few cobwebs...
